Faulty Aircon – No adequate after sales support

Bought an aircon unit – shortly thereafter it stopped producing cold air. Despite having caused installers to refill the gas twice, the unit is still not producing cold air. Makro has failed to respond to my enquiries and/or has been slow to respond. When Makro responded and/or could be reached, they provided contradictory and/or vague responses: i) was first told that the unit will be picked-up by the store where it the Unit came from; ii) when I heard nothing was told that a technician would come out; iii) a technician did not come out and was then told to provide the “document” of the person who installed; iv) When I asked what document and why, was then given an equally vague response that I need a ‘COC’, without an explanation why – still waiting

The response above differs slightly (sensatised) from that sent to me via email, i.e.

" We want to start by saying how deeply sorry we are for the frustration and inconvenience you've experienced with your aircon unit. We can only imagine how infuriating this must be for you, and for that, we truly apologize. We're taking immediate action to rectify this situation. We're pleased to inform you that we've officially submitted a request to our Alberton branch to expedite the repair or replacement process for your inverter unit "

Be that as it may, despite the promise two weeks ago now to give immidiate attention to the replacement / repair, Makro has again gone silent"

Makro arranged for Defy to take the issue further. So, my poor customer satisfaction experience was just moved to another party. After delays and undertakings Defy came to replace the back compressor part of the aircon. When the aircon again stopped working, I contacted Defy and Makro. Makro again passed the buck referring me to Defy and Defy, save for saying this will be brought to the attention of management, is silent.

Makro sold a faulty Defy aircon -that they conceded. When Makro initially responded and/or could be reached, they provided contradictory and/or vague responses (see initial report). After 2 x apologies it took MAKRO six months to take back the Aircon. I returned it on 14 June 2025 and was given an option of store credit or a refund. I chose a refund. It has been 2 weeks now and I am still waiting. Makro Alberton says it is because of a mystery reason in the finance office. Makro online says I must go back to store to buy something as I will not be refunded. Makro Alborton insists that I must wait for a refund, but cannot tell me why it has not been done in 2 weeks.
