Expired gift card

Today (Sunday, 9/9/2018) we wanted to use a gift card that my husband received at work for an incentive at Makro Strubensvalley. Apparently the card had expired!

Firstly - how can a gift card with a balance expire?? This certainly doesn't happen at Woolworths (as also tested today when purchasing something there on a gift card that had been in my wallet for quite some time, since I forgot about it) or Ackermans.

Secondly - Kelly (your EXTREMELY arrogant staff member apparently from Accounts) told me in my face that I was lying when I informed her that I previously had to buy with an expired gift card, and that the balance was obtained from Head Office and that I could then spend the money on the very same day. I was told today: "I have been working with gift cards for many years and I can tell you that it couldn't happen!" This was in front of a number of other staff members and quite a few other clients. How dare your staff tell a client that she's lying?? Who does she think she is? No wonder she's stuck in the same position for YEARS!! Even told me that something like this can only be sorted out by "maybe" Wednesday!!! Is Makro really SO inefficient that an 'expired' gift card needs 4 days to be sorted out? She then also wouldn't really try to assist a client if she was so smug to loudly broadcast the fact that the company is so inept! (Please also ask her if she knows what inept means, since this is a true and accurate reflection of herself!) I would love to know what your top management firstly think of such behaviour from a staff member (or is this the general and accepted behaviour of your staff?) and secondly; what the company is going to do about such behaviour?
