Dissapointing end to my Makro story

In January this year I purchased an Aerospace 5 in 1 Sofa Bed for my Holiday home in Pretoria. It was the last item available at the Woodmead store and the packaging looked to be open previously, however I had guests with me and had no choice but to purchase the couch.

When I got to Pta i assembled everything together and noticed that one of the valves was pushed in unlike the other valve which was set correctly. Thinking this may just be a factory gliche i let it be and continued to pump the couch.

What i first noticed was that the couch had irregular curve in the middle when upright. I still didnt think it was major and i continued to use it for the weekend to allow people to sleep over. I left gauteng that weekend and went back home to durban.

When i returned to pretoria on my next trip the couch had become almost nearly deflated. I pumped it up agai. Thinking this was normal but the next 2 days i saw the same thing happen as i pumped it.

Unfortunately due to time constraints and business hours i was unable to return the couch to Makro Woodmead. I headed home again but this time with the invoice and couch peripherals in hand.

Because of constantly being on call my working hours are irrational at best. I am an ATM technician and travel long hours. I took it to Makro Umgeni Road when i got the chance but by now a lot of time had passed. They advised me that because the couch was now almost 6 months old and also i had not made any attemp to contact the Woodmead branch but a branch in a different province made it impossible for them to refund.

I now end up here with no alternative because my regions change depending on work available so it may be a while until i can reach the Woodmead branch again. Look the couch is still in its original condition. Ever since being used that first weekend it has just been deflating steadily by itself.

I would hope Makros customer services can assist my situation and allow me to return it if possible to a the Alberton branch as my girlfriend currently has it in her possession together with the invoice of purchase. All the packaging is intact.

I can provide you with my ID number or my girlfriends ID number in order for you to go back to our purchase history and see how much we have spent at Makro setting up both our homes. We have purchased Fridges, Washing Machine, Electronics and Consumables in the past and have spent a considerable amount of money at your store.

Please try to assist me. In my opinion this couch was damaged prior to me purchasing it. I would like to continue shopping at Makro so perhaps we can work an exchange deal instead of any cash return? I paid 1,400 of my valuable rands for a couch i cannot use.

With thanks,
