Consumer Protection Act explained to Makro
Dear Makro, I bought a double door Defy fridge online. The fridge was delivered (hence the chaos Makro online service vs courier service). The device was left untouched for a number of hours and eventually put on in the evening to cool overnight. Only the next morning the fridge/freezer did not cool a single degree. Phoned Makro Online, lots of promises to call back but did not happen. A number of calls later we were offered 'to fix' the device and a technician would be send out. Hold on Makro, it was a new device and faulty/not in working order. The item should be replaced. As per Consumer Protection Act (and made Makro aware as such in writing via email): "Suppliers are required to provide consumers with reasonable opportunity to examine goods purchased or delivered. 1. Consumers have the right to return unsafe or defective goods and request a full refund for such goods, provided this is done within a reasonable period". The request was IGNORED! Thus Makro is acting *******. My request was denied and instead 'it was escalated to a supervisor'. Secondly a replacement within reasonable time was also IGNORED! I know we live in a banana republic, but please what rights remain for a consumer if Makro does as it pleases and its *********** staff is not aware of any consumer rights? Get your act right Makro or I make you famous with a film crew at your depot, I will load the faulty device on a trailer and bring it to your doorsteps! Makro Europe is in deep trouble, not that Makro SA has much to spare to treat clients badly, and me, being a good client.
