Complaint Regarding Misleading Adverti*****t and Refund
On ***9, Makro advertised a couch for R39.99. Based on the advert, I purchased the item, assuming the price was correct and that Makro, as a reputable retailer, would honor the deal as advertised. Instead, I was later informed that the adverti*****t was an “error” and that my payment would be refunded.
This practice is not only disappointing, it is misleading to customers. As a consumer, I entered into a purchase agreement based on the price you advertised. To refund the money afterward, without honoring the sale, is unfair and erodes trust in your brand.
Makro has a responsibility to ensure that its adverti*****ts are correct and truthful. Incorrect pricing, followed by automatic cancellation and refund, amounts to false advertising. Consumers should not be lured into stores or online purchases with prices that you later retract.
I request that Makro:
Provide a full explanation as to why the couch was advertised at R39.99.
Advise what corrective measures will be taken to prevent misleading adverts in future.
Consider honoring the sale for affected customers, or at the very least, provide meaningful compensation for the inconvenience and breach of trust.
Please treat this complaint with urgency and respond within 7 business days. Failing that, I will escalate this matter to the Consumer Goods & Services Ombud and the National Consumer Commission for investigation under the Consumer Protection Act.
I expect Makro, as a leading retailer, to take accountability and rectify this matter.
