Becareful at Makro Springfield's (Debit card machines they are so close to each other)- you will find yourself paying for another customers like i did
I am writing to report an incident that occurred at your store on Friday, 20 March 2026 around 10:30 -11:00. I was checking out at Till 45. When I attempted to pay with my Tymebank card, the card machine at my till was physically touching the card machine of the opposite till. My purchase total was approximately R3993.90 and I had a little more than R4,000 available in my account. I tapped my card on the machine while the two devices were still in contact. The lady at the opposite till then separated the machines. Immediately afterwards, I received an SMS notification on my phone confirming a transaction of R308.50 At that moment, I did not notice the message at that moment I tapped my card again, but the transaction was declined. I tried a couple more times, but it continued to decline. I then asked my son to pay for my items, which he did, and I promised to reimburse him. While he was paying, I checked my phone and saw the R308.50 transaction notification. I immediately showed it to the cashier at Till 45. She initially seemed skeptical but verified the date and time, confirming that when the transaction occurred, I was with her in her till. She then called her manager, who also reviewed the details and was surprised by what had happened. Both the cashier and the manager just brushed me off and advised me to contact my bank and suggested that the amount might reverse. I called Tymebank, and they confirmed that a purchase of exactly R308.50 had been processed at Makro on the same day and at the same time. They could not provide further details about the specific purchase. It appears that when the two card machines were touching, my card may have unintentionally processed a payment for the customer at the opposite till (the lady who separated the machines).
