ADVSERTISING ERROR - NO RECOURSE

Makro advertized a promotion on Lancewood Cheddar cheese in the Fourways Review Makro Birthday specials supplement. The promo was for 1.25kg of cheese, price R88.95 each, valid from 22 July - 30 July 2023. I drove a long way to the Woodmead store for this offer. The only cheese on promotion was Lancewood cheese at R88.95 PER KG. I found an assistant and said that I wanted the cheese in the adverti*****t. He said it was impossible and spoke to me in a very patronizing manner suggesting that I could not expect to buy cheese for that price. The store had a small notice on the fridge door saying that there "had been an error in the advert". When I insisted that if the error was theirs, not mine, they owed it to me to sell it at the advertised price. The more I tried to explain that this was the law in terms of the Consumer Protection Act, the more the assistant raised his voice without allowing me to speak. I insisted on speaking to the manager. I got the same response: they refused to sell the cheese at the advertised price. I left the store with my blood boiling. and will never set foot in a Makro store again. I intend to take this further with Wendy Knowler.
