Absolutely Shocked!!!

On the 29th July (Sunday at about 15:30 or so) we had come back from a very pleasant hike. Hungry as can be. We decided to stop off at the Makiti Wedding Venue for some food.

I have been here a few times before to eat the waffles, and had always enjoyed them. This time a waffle was not what the stomach had ordered. I guess it was not their lucky day as us three girls are qualified chefs and we expected a waffle house/ wedding venue to have decent food.

We were absolutely shocked at the standard of food they are actually presenting to their customers!

My friend ordered a chicken curry and rice. This curry looked as though it was bone dry chicken breast pulled apart with a bone dry heap of rice. It looked horrible! For all we know, this was some left over from an event which had taken place beforehand. This is how it looked. Because I know in our kitchens, our curries do not look all pulled apart like that and bone dry.

I had ordered a chicken schnitzel with cheese sauce and chips. Wow let me tell you, this was frozen processed chicken out of a box! How does a restaurant with chefs and kitchen staff not be able to make a chicken schnitzel with a real chicken breast? This is the most simple thing to make!

The absolute cherry on top for us was my 2nd friends food. She ordered a Arrabiata pasta with a cheesy garlic roll on the side. The pasta sauce was straight out of the tin (the tomato and onion mix tin) that was blitzed up and raw garlic added. This 'sauce' was not even heated long enough for the garlic to have cooked. Again one of the most simple sauces to make in a restaurant kitchen, yet they couldn't be bothered. The garlic roll- Cold butter shoved inside this roll, no garlic and PROCESSED cheese slices on top of the bread roll and melted? WHAT? not even normal grated cheese? Processed???

Two dishes were over R95, and the pasta was over R60. So this bill came to R375 with a non alcoholic drink each. This is what we paid for? We could of gone to Spur or Roccomamas for the same price back at home and really enjoyed it. But no we wanted to be out in that area away from the city to eat a nice meal which turned out to be a disaster!

We had one of our friends a while back tell us that she will never go there again because the waffle had come from a box, frozen. Is this now the standard of this place? Is this place under new management/ ownership, or do these people actually not care what comes out of their kitchens and served to their customers?

We had complained to the manager, and she just stood there without knowing what to say. I am an Executive chef of our place and you have to be on your toes at all times! All this manager could say was 'could I get you another curry'. I mean what 'other' curry would she be getting us if this was the standard curry on the menu? Would she be making us a new one where we would of waited for how long? No managerial s****s there.

This is very embarrassing for a restaurant and wedding venue this size! I have read the reviews and this place has seriously gone down. It's very sad because its a nice place. But if people have even said that the accommodation is filthy, then you know that the whole place has gone down and not just the food. If the place cannot make fresh food instead of from a box or tin, then they should only stick to making waffles and fresh ones too!

Not a good experience at all! it's not even about the money we spent, but how a business can actually run this way, I don't know. All I do know is, I would hate to even walk into their kitchen and see the health and safety standards they follow. I highly doubt they practise hygiene properly in the kitchen, because even the bathrooms are filthy. One could only imagine!

Please do think twice before going there, unless you are happy with frozen boxed food for that sort of price.
