Humiliating experience at Maine Radiology Lifestyle Centre.

My general practitioner referred me to Maine Radiology Lifestyle Centre for X-rays of my lower back and right hip. I am not a member of a medical aid scheme, but I do have medical insurance. When I arrived, the receptionist took my referral letter, looked at it, and informed me that I would be personally responsible for paying the account. I explained that I have medical insurance, hoping she would clarify their payment policy. Instead, she rep**** in a cold and dismissive tone, "We only work with medical aid schemes, not medical insurance." I fully understand that every practice has its own policies regarding payment and accepted medical cover. My disappointment is not with the policy itself, but with the manner in which I was treated. As a senior citizen, I left feeling humiliated, unwelcome and as though I did not deserve the same courtesy and respect as any other patient. I was so upset by the interaction that I turned around and left without having my X-rays done. Unfortunately, I did not get the receptionist's name, but the experience has left such a negative impression that I will not return to this practice, even if I become a member of a medical aid scheme in the future. Kindness, empathy and respect cost nothing, yet they can make all the difference to someone seeking medical care.
