10 year Guarantee ******** - a tale of caution

<p>We used Magitex in Dec 2013/Jan 2014 to do waterproof and paint the house with their (apparently) wonderful paint - which they guarantee for 10 years (see http://magitex.co.za/). We accepted the high price specifically for (i) their claimed expertise in waterproofing and (ii) their 10 year guarantee.</p> <p> </p> <p>But the actual guarantee was not provided (and is not on their website) and I had to eventually specifically ask for the signed guarantee, which was only provided after the work was completed. Small print in the guarantee (never mentioned!) is that it is that only the paint is "guaranteed against chipping, flaking and peeling". This despite the fact that their quote to us (in bold) states "10 Years guarantee on all MAGISEALED walls" and their website is ambiguous in that it looks like "waterproofing and painting" is covered by the guarantee (check their website for yourself).</p> <p> </p> <p>First problem was that already in the 1st month the colour faded and changed in many places, which Magitex had to fix. And now, less than 4 years after painting the house, the previous damp problems are back - and as bad as ever!</p> <p> </p> <p>We approached Magitex to honour their guarantee, only now to witnedd Magitex doing their "guarantee avoidance" dance (i) with claiming that the waterproofing was never guaranteed (this after singing the wonders of how "flexible" their paint was to accomodate movement), (ii) divert the issue to their supplier to investigate (who has offered 2 token 5l cans of paint in lieu of the fading) after various delays to visit/respond and the (iii) usual stalling/not answering emails/etc.</p> <p> </p> <p>So, the short of this tale is: If you ever intend using Magitex to paint or waterproof your house, make sure you get a sample of the guarantee before they start.
