SH Mac: Unjustified Deposit deductions

From the first sight - Macprop seems like a great place to rent from. They lure you in with a saving of 50% from your first months rent. However, I guarantee you, you will pay this back the day when you move out.

The following unjustified and unsupported deductions were made from our deposit:

1. Plumbing & Sanitary - R250 2. Electrical & Appliance - R375 3. Carpentry & Granite - R400 4. Iron Montgomery - R750 5. Plumbing & Sanitary - R250

As a rule - and don’t be surprised about this when you move out - R1 500 is also deducted for re-painting the unit.

After numerous emails, I still haven’t received an answer or a name of an individual at Macprop who is responsible for deciding which deductions are made from your deposit.

Lastly, the contract states that your deposit is held in a trust account which accumulates interest. However, this is also not the case. Our initial deposit amount has seen no growth after a 2.5 year period.

Another side note: If anything goes wrong at your unit. You will be liable to pay for any repairs. My sister in laws window fell out of the frame as a result of very old and worn window patty. This was reported to the maintenance department who advised that the repairs must be done at their own costs. Imagine a sound minded individual expecting a tenant to pay these costs from their lack of proper maintenance?

These oaks and the government would thrive together as they are two peas in a pod.
