Shocking after sales service

MacD Fireplace installed a closed combustion fireplace in my house 2 years ago. The fireplace has possibly been used about 5 times during this 2 year period as the house is mostly unoccupied. On a recent visit to the property i noticed that the chimney looked as if it was about to fall over. On contacting MacD in Cape Town I was told that the chimney installation only carries a one year guarantee, which I did not know about but they claim they left the paperwork regarding this on the fireplace after installation. This in a new build???

They refuse to secure it now unless I sign a service agreement and I was willing to do so on condition I could obtain a guarantee that it would remain secure. This was refused and I was told by the owner that "I had not taken proper care of my chimney and was now looking for someone to blame". Trying to complain to the Fireplace Association, which they claim they are members of, revealed that this organisation no longer exists. On asking for recommendations about a service I could use in my neighbourhood, it became apparent that a few other people also have had similar experiences with MacD. Company to be avoided if there are any after sales problems it seems as the customer gets blamed for the problem and they will not repair a problem without locking you into a service agreement.
