Dont honor warranty

<p>When we wrote to the manufacturer (franco belge) in desperation i got a response from macd insinuating i was trying to poach their import business!</p> <p>We Had a franco belge fireplace installed by southern fires an authorized installer for macd products. Fireplace rusted terribly in the first year and we had the installer out about 3 times to rectify this(later we would find out he hadnt used the correct flu, apparently he made it. ) To cut a long story short, it was never rectified the installer stopped coming. We contacted macd the holder of the 10 year warranty after about 12months (later this written warranty would be turned into a 5 year, but that wasn't honored anyway so really not worth anything) <br />Macd asked for pictures and then David wrote back saying it was 100% nothing to worry about, told me he had the same one and this was common place. They said at this point they would come out and inspect it, which they never did.</p> <p>After about 3 years the fireplace was completely unusable and had rusted to the point of being non functional. All the while macd assured us their installer was competent and of the highest caliber.</p> <p>Eventually macd did come out and inspect the fireplace but it was too little too late. </p> <p>Macd appointed a sub standard installer and import/sell a product that has questionable support both internationally and via themselves. We had to spend another 20k buying a new fireplace, flu etc. Southern fires was sold to a new owner who also refused to honor the warranty on either the installation or the unit. We never actually got the official reason for not honoring the written warranty we had from either party , everyone just stuck their heads in the sand and sent us quotes for the reinstallation/replacement of the flu and for new parts for the fireplace. I gather Macd no longer recommend or supply southern fires. I would rate them zero stars but unfortunately it won't let me . We own multi properties and have many cast iron fireplaces some which are 13 years old at least and have never had one fail except this one.</p>
