Data vanished

Plugged in my logbook after 4 months worth of trips. Downloaded the trips. Then registered (Again not knowing I initially did so or that it would do anything) and all the data vanished from the device and my PC. Without warning. GONE. Really disappointed. This device is great in principle, but no failsafe whatsoever to protect the data. Not even support could rectify it
