Impossible to Get a Pre-paid Mobile Landline Number With Liquid Telecom

<p>Today was my last attempt at trying to get a pre-paid mobile landline number from Liquid Telecom (previously Neotel). It's not worth the frustration. The service is shocking and perhaps its better to walk away now.</p> <p>The first time I tried in January 2017 at Cedar Square, I was told they did not have stock of handsets sold with pre-paid landline packages because they were going through a merger with Liquid Telecom. In February the merger had still not been completed.</p> <p>When I went there today (9 May), they said they had run out of pre-paid stock of the handsets two weeks ago, which means they cannot give pre-paid landline numbers. I was advised to try the Midrand Walk-In centre which had stock but discovered when I got there that they too did not have stock of these handsets. The worst part is, when I asked when they would have stock, I was told it would take two months.</p> <p>We have a regulator who is meant to monitor this type of practice that clearly tries to force customers into 24 and sometimes 36 month contracts. We have great legislation that purports to protect the consumers but in reality is that the true picture? </p>
