Psychologists and not lawyers

I was assigned a lawyer for a case of arrears payment of 2 months on my vehicle, I have already paid one month back, a tracer is now calling and threating me. I went to law for all for help to negotiate repayment of the one month. The lawyer appointed to me constantly wants to have conference call to negotiate with ABSA, and today tells me to pay end of the month and then rather suffer and pay it all. What I want to know is why are these lawyers playing the middle man, why do they have to hear me negotiate while they are just there listening, are they psychologists? Also, why will I consult a lawyer if I want to hear that I must pay all the money and suffer? Absa could have told me that themselves!!!! A total waste of R300 per month I could have paid towards my debts mxm.
