Lift Airline Baggage Insurance is a ****
I recently purchased a flight from Johannesburg to Durban and also purchased Baggage insurance for R30. The baggage insurance was supposed to cover Baggage damaged or lost baggage while in Lift Airlines possession. I inspected my bag upon arrival in Durban airport. I noticed that both sides of my bag was crushed and when I tried to extend my handle to move the bag the handle was stuck. I looked for a Lift baggage person but none was seen, also it was an early flight that landed at 7:05. The security stated that there was no one at the baggage counter at Baggage claim. It was strange as I just use the handle to move my bag about 2 hours earlier when I checked it at Lift Airlines check in counter in Johannesburg. The handle seem like my bag was mishandled and was damaged the handles. Also the bag was crushed possibly bad loading or packing from Lift Airlines side. I send an email Discovery with who the baggage insurance email stated it was with Discovery. Discovery person emailed back and ask me to check with Lift Airlines to either cover the responsibility or state with a letter that they will not and reasons why. I contacted Lift Airlines and was contacted and the agent stated that my bag is not covered stating it was hard case. I further emailed back to state that my bag was actually a softer material. But they sent an email to decline my baggage damage claim with no other reasonings. So I asked a question, what is the reason to offer a baggage insurance whilst booking a flight with a total bag decline if claimed. Lift Airlines stated that the insurance is with Discovery and I should contact them. This back and forth is time consuming. I also had a family member in a very critical condition on hospital which was difficult and stressful as it is, whilst also trying to claim with Lift Airline. So basically the baggage insurance is a ****. You will pay and they state a amount to claim for damages or lost luggage but it gets decline and you as a client get pushed to the insurance provider. I believe this is not fair and there is a lack of transparency from the Airline. Now I have a damaged bag with is unusable and will have to discarded. It was an expensive purchase being a well reputed brand, Cellini. In the past I did claim with another airline and the claim process was very easy, efficient and transparent and the claim was processed in a reasonable time. I encourage customers to avoid paying for the baggage insurance with Lift Airlines, as you are paying for something that wil never materialise, it just as money grab for Lift and Discovery. Lift stated that Discovery sell the insurance on their platform. How strange that you are paying on the Lift website and apparently they have no control. Their claim process is so ineffective and inefficient, a total waste of someone's time. They are just ready to decline with an email letter. It was not a good experience with Lift. I have flown with many airlines and it's the first time I have put forward a comment.
