Good Day I was admitted to West Beach Clinic, West Beach, Blouberg, Cape Town, on Wednesday, the 25 Feb 2026. I was told to be there at 1pm, when I arrived the guy told me to fill in a form, which I quickly did, and he then told me to have a seat, and a nurse would be with me shortly. I waited for one hour and ten minutes before anyone came near me, no apology for the wait. I was taken to a room with three beds in it, (room 14), I was horrified, the room stank, there was a tiny window high up on the wall, which only opened a few centimetres, and NO AIRCONDITIONING. I asked about this, and I was told the aircons in the whole clinic were out of order and had been out of order for many months. There was a fan in the room, which just moved the hot, stinky air around. The bathroom was dirty, there was mould in the shower, and the worst was the carpets in the room, they were dirty and smelly. How is it possible that they have carpets in a medical clinic, do they not know how unhygienic carpets are. I had to give all my medication to the nurse, it was in one of those plastic monthly pill holders, I told the nurse that I took these pills at night, and my vitamins etc I took in the morning. She never asked what the pills were. The first day I was there, (Wednesday), I didn’t see any psychiatrist or the******, so that night, the first night, I went to get my medication at the nurses’ station, and the man asked me what pills I take!! I showed him my plastic container and took my own pills out and drank them. The second day, (Thursday), I saw the doctor, (I think her name was Dr Beath) and she changed my prescription. That night, I went to get my pills, and this time they were in a container with my name and room number on the container. I went through the pills, and I couldn’t understand what was happening, because it didn’t look like the pills that I usually took, plus the new ones the Dr had prescribed, but I just assumed that I was mistaken, and I took the pills. The next morning (Friday), I could hardly get out of bed, I was so drugged. I told the doctor when I saw her that morning, and she discovered that they had given me the wrong meds. She wrote a WhatsApp message to the person in charge of dispensing the meds and told them the exact pills to give me going forward. No apology from anyone. That night, once again, I went to get my pills at 8pm, and to my horror, they once again gave me the wrong medication. I became angry with the guy who gave them to me, and he just shrugged his shoulders, I asked him if he understood how dangerous it was to give patients wrong meds, and he seemed totally disinterested. I decided that night I would check out the next morning. I phoned Discovery on Saturday morning and explained to the person I spoke to what had happened, and that I was leaving, he agreed with me, and told me I should write to The Board of Healthcare Funders to report this disastrous experience. Lastly, the food in West Beach Clinic is too terrible. Surely when you are paying such a lot of money, they could at least employ a chef who knows how to cook?? I was not well when I went into West Beach Clinic, and I thought that I would have 2 weeks there to destress, and heal, but all it did was make me more stressed and anxious, a really terrible experience. No one from West Beach Clinic has contacted me the ask me why I left, they are obviously not interested. Thanks, and regards Roy ROY GARDNER
