Poor treatment to Elderly at Randburg Licensing Centre

On 14 October 2020, at 09h00, I joined a long queue in the open that snaked its way very, very slowly to the offices of the persons in charge. A Covid-19 visitor symptoms screening form was given to me for completion. At least three elderly women had to be assisted as they felt faint standing in the hot sun. As a 70 -year- old citizen myself, I gathered all the strength I could to renew my driver's licence come what may. I eventually arrived at the office at 15h25 and was served by a female official. She requested an eye test report from an optician which I did not have. The regulations allows clients the opportunity to have their eyes tested at the licensing office. When she discovered I did not have the requisite form, she literally chased me out of her office. She said something to her male counterpart in the office and walked me to the door. She informed the security guard to lead me out. I was devastated. As a pensioner, a tax payer, and a former senior manager in Education in KZN, I am still attempting to come to terms with that horrific experience. The authorities should be compassionate and understanding to senior citizens.
