************** against Pensioners

I would like to share my frustration and disgust with both the Randburg and Roodepoort (Florida Lake) DLTC’s! My Mum is a pensioner and her driver’s license expires late August this year. We live in Randburg so decided to go to the Randburg DLTC but couldn’t make an appointment online as instructed as the website continually showed 0 availability’. So on Monday we went in person but were turned away because my Mum didn’t have an appointment. We were told that we can only book online on Tuesdays! I tried continually through the day yesterday/Tuesday to book, with no luck! So, we decided to go to the Roodepoort DLTC. We stood in the queue this morning/Wednesday from 6.15 until 8.30, only to be told by two women who came out of the offices and addressed the whole queue saying that ‘old age pensioners are no longer allowed to renew their licenses until the end of lockdown’.! When a pensioner in the queue asked what would happen if they were stopped and fined she was told that she would then have to ‘just pay the fine and go argue in court’. We were told to ‘go away because we are not going to help you’. So, we left and when we arrived home I phoned the eNatis govt support line, explained what had happened and was told that there is no extension for pensioners’ licenses, that these offices are indeed supposed to renew pensioners’ licenses but that they had been receiving numerous complaints about various offices arbitrarily making their own rules. I was told to send a complaint to their email address - which I have done. So now people who are doing their best to support their govt, be honest and responsible citizens are being discriminated against by various offices making arbitrary and ******** decisions - and there is no recourse whatsoever!
