Wrong Advice given to a newly married couple to gain commission and leave us broke.

My wife and i a newly married couple trying to be responsible people had taken out an insurance policy with Liberty Life to protect our family. The reason for choosing Liberty Life is that my wife had a policy with Liberty already and i aais let's keep all under one roof ,little did we know that, that was the worst decision of our lives. We had told the adviser in one of the medical questions that i had been to the doctor for knee pains and slight hip pains but because the xray was clear he said it was not necessary to write that in the policy. Keep in mind,we know nothing about insurance except it protects our family. According to the other advisers, that was wrong of him and i signed the documents after being wrongly advised. This was the turning point in our marriage. After a few months,i have been diagnosed with a condition called Avascular Necrosis and was unable to work and provide for my family. The doctor's advised that i am too young and cannot do this operation. I need to protect my health as long as possible so that the operation will be done when i am much older as a hip replacement only last a maximum of 20 years. Once my claim was in process,my adviser had resigned. I was left alone to handle this claim. He said that insurance will pay "i must not work" the claim went on for months and no results. I had spent so much of money on phone calls and medical documents. Keep in mind prior to us taking out the policy, the advisor had made all arrangements in getting the documents signed. He even was willing to meet me anywhere and come to me. I felt honoured as a client at that time. After the claim process has stated. My phone was not answered,he would say i am in a meeting, ill call you back but never did. The adviser had earned over R7000 in commission. A new adviser was helping me and also said Liberty will pay but wanted 20 % of my claim. He said that's his fees charged. I agreed on this as he was helping me out. He also advised not to work until the claim is over. I haven't been working for months now. I was living of my wife's salary and she takes care of her parent's with her salary. We now took out loans to pay for our expenses thinking that the insurance will pay according to the adviser's. It's been 1 year 2 months after i have been diagnosed with my condition and haven't received a cent from insurance. My claim was declined because of the wrong advice given to us. My policy has lapsed and the money returned to my account. The adviser told me not to worry, they will reinstate the policy but didn't tell me that i am not covered for anything. At the end tglhe second adviser said he can't help us. With all the loans we took out to help us through this months,we are only left with R3000 now we have to go for debt counselling and put out lives on hold. As a newly married couple and bad advice from a multi billion rand company we now have to suffer. Please be on the look out for Liberty Life adviser's giving wrong advice and making quick money of innocent client's like us. I also want to say thanks to Mr Patrick Rajah from EQ financial service in Westville for his assistance. He said that it is not right for any adviser to ask for money from any clients claim and that's not the companies policy. Please be aware of adviser that will take your money and leave you and your family in a situation like this. I hope i get some positive feedback from this. Thanks.
