WARNING STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY

After reading all the reviews on this forum I realize I am not an isolated case. I took out 2 Policies with Liberty in 2001(19 years ago) and 2006(14 years ago) with the assistance of a very helpful Sales representative. My understanding when taking out these policies was that besides life cover I had insurance against becoming disabled or being diagnosed with a dreaded disease. Like most of us when we are younger I felt this should never effect me but it was nice to know that in the event of something happening I was covered. According to the documentation I read and based on the way it is worded I Understood that should I ever be unable to perform my duties at work I had cover. I also understood as it states on numerous web pages and brochures that in the event of me being "Diagnosed with a dreaded disease" I was covered. So approximately 5 years ago I started losing weight and after many doctors, specialists and a lung Biopsy I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and it had effected my lungs. I Started treatment with a Pulmonologist and Rheumatologist. 5 years down the line I have managed to control most of the pain and I am seeing a doctor at a cost of R4000 a month. I am now partially disabled and unable to perform most of my duties in the workplace. I am still working but am unable to perform the most important tasks in my job as I am unable to Stand long, have trouble with balance and really struggle to walk. My whole life has changed in a negative way and I am unable to do most things I took for granted. In September 2019 I decided to put in a claim so that I would be able to make adjustments at home etc to be able to move around easier and try to live a more normal life. First day of claim got a call from a consultant at Liberty saying she would be my contact and she was so sorry about my illness and she would assist me every step of the way. Well that was the end of Liberty caring, now all the small print (strangely enough not on my original contract) is coming out. Now I have to be almost totally unable to do anything to be able to claim from MY POLICY that I chose to invest in with MY MONEY in the event of something life changing happening to me. As for my consultant, nothing not a call, message or any contact to see if he can assist. Very happy to come and see me every year and review my cover with suggestions to increase my cover. What a joke. My suggestion before anybody invests in a product with this company ask them to explain some of the stuff you can see on this forum. Clever wording in your documentation should be made ******* as it is an attempt to confuse your potential clients and I am sure a possible breach of the Consumer Act.

Copy and paste reply not appreciated. Was called by someone asking if I wanted to cancel my policy. You've got me where you want me Liberty. If I cancel my policies you stand to keep in excess of R300 000 I've paid and will pay me a pathetic R40k odd to say goodbye. Off to the Ombudsman I go. Watch out these guys don't give a **** about you.
