Shocking treatment from Liberty Life toward Struggling Widow

It is with sadness that I have to address you.

My story: My husband passed away 4 years ago and I was left with no life cover and 3 kids at varsity.

My safe haven was that I had a R3 m life cover if something had to happen to me.

In March this year I enquired about my policy and to my shock found out that my policy lapsed 2 years ago. I have just stopped anxiety medication. I went to a broker who helped me, she found out on system that this was true. We phoned them and they told me that nothing was to be done as it has lapsed. I was histerical. I went to FNB, my bank who was very helpful. The money was lying at Standard bank.I did what I was supposed to and paid the R2 100 every month with an income of only R10000pm all in vain. Liberty informed me I can have the R60 000 which they did not apply since 2014. According to them they did inform me. Again Liberties mistake they spelled the email address wrong. seeff was spelled with one f .... Therefore I did not receive it. My broker had my telephone nr as it never changed and is still the same as it has been for years.

This means: if I passed away my kids 3 students at varsity who was now dependant on student loans was left homeless on the street. If I passed away or became terminal at that stage or in the last 2 years I would and still have no cover.

I addressed Liberty several times again. I obviously stopped paying and asked them to refund me the full amount I paid in since 2009. An amount of about R160 000.

Time went and one day a received a mail that they took the money from Standard bank re installed it to the policy after it lapsed because of their mistake 2 years ago. Now they just need my installments for the last 4-5 months otherwise it is going to lapse. Nobody has ever spoken to me just cold mails.

MY QUESTION??

Do other insurance companies treat you this way as well?
How would you react if something like this happens to you?
Where do I get the money from?
Would you also have lost total belief in Life cover?
Would you also not want the money back and invest it in somethin more trust worthy?

I feel Liberty should take responsibility. Give me my money back. Please dont treat widows and people who try to make ends meet in these days like this. If they dont take responibility myself and my kids will have to take steps to spread this in the media. I have already handed this over for further investigation.

Good day Charlene
