Retrenchment policy - False information

I have had a retrenchment policy since 2015 with them and then in December I tried to increase the cover which they finally managed to change in February 2018 (2 months later) On the latest policy was a clause with a waiting period which said that Liberty will send me documentation with the waiting period or I could consult with my broker for the waiting time. I was told via email that there would be no waiting period as it is not a new policy but only an upgrade of an existing policy. Then on the 7th of June 2018 I was retrenched and now Liberty and the broker are just saying there are a 6 month waiting period. Why must I pay for a mistake on their side? I would not recommend them at all.
