Liberty refuses to pay out money from policy taken
My grandfather took a policy (Ref # ********** ********** ) with Liberty. He had my grandmother as a 70% beneficiary on the policy and their last born child as a 30% beneficiary. My grandfather passed away in August and the family battled to bury him as there were no funds. A claim was submitted to Liberty but no money was paid out. Out frustration, the family went and made a number of loans to cover the funeral in hope that the lump sum money from Liberty will come out soon and these debts will be settled. 2 months later, my grandmother has still not received this 70% share lump sum money that she is entitled to. And is running at a risk of being cleaned out her furniture by all the people she owes. I have tried to engage Liberty several times but I haven't been winning. Today I called them and eventually managed to get someone to assist me. However, the lady said the policy cannot be paid in lump sum and will be paid in small amount (R1800 to my grandmother and R700 to the child). How ridiculous is that? Two months later we are only being told this and after all these loans that my 65 years old grandmother has had to deal with. This is really unfair from Liberty. And I would like to have them tell us what we need to do to have the lump sum amount paid so we can settle the debts that resulted from the funeral of the very same person who had a policy with them.
