Liberty Life... More Likely Liberty Death
My husband had a provident fund through his previous employer with Liberty Life. In October 2017 the company decided to retrench all its employees, and later filed for liquidation. The papers for terminating the agreement with Liberty was signed and processed immediately, in-time and payout was promised within 2 weeks. (This was to make up for the fact that no-one received their last month's salary, neither any form of retrenchment compensation). Today, 6 months later, Liberty has failed to respond to queries on the status of the money. They are selectively paying out to members (reference from his ex-colleagues that decided to go via the ombudsman) and the customer service is EXTREMELY poor. Service like this makes my shameful and angry to admit that we decided to INVEST our hard earned money in such a pathetic financial institution. What we want to know is WHY has the payout not happened... WHERE is the current interest earnings going... and WHAT does an employees investment have to do with the company financial status??? Really simple. These men have families to look after, mouths to feed and rent to pay. They were given no warning that they were going to be without work, over the Christmas and holiday season, and then on top of that they have to phone to beg and plead with Liberty for any kind of feedback. Even physically visiting the Liberty office in Century City, waiting for several hours, NO DEFINITE response: "we are working on it". So my honest opinion would be - take your money out of there as soon as you can, all of it. One day when you need the fruit of your labor, cover for emergency expenses, this is the last place you ever want to depend on.
