Liberty Life: Death Claims

Our father passed away December 2020 and till today my siblings and I have not received a pay out from his retirement fund from his employer because of Liberty life. They have denied us to opportunity to move on with our lives and have put us in financial distress. My father initially had my siblings and myself as his beneficiaries but liberty life is adding people to benefit from our father’s retirement fund including someone who is not related to us. My family had completed and produced all the necessary documents needed for the claim. Liberty life considered people who our father did not nominate as beneficiaries including a 45 year old woman who claimed to be our father’s child. We did not contest that but then liberty life requested that we conduct a DNA test with that woman, on our expense. We conducted that DNA test and it came back as not a match and that is where the problems began. Liberty life refuses to conclude our claim because they said need an affidavit from that woman’s mother, who we have no contact with and they claim to have no contact with. According to them the affidavit needs to state how long that woman’s mother was in a relationship with our father and why does she say that her daughter is our father’s child. Again we are not talking about a minor we are talking about someone who is 45+ years old, whose DNA was not a match and who we have no contact with. I have spent hundreds of rands in airtime, in trying to get to the bottom of this with liberty life and I’m always told that the person dealing with our case is busy with another family and will get back to us. I have never received a call back from them except for one time when my phone was literally in my hand and it literally rang once and they hung up. I know it was liberty life death claims calling me because I had downloaded truecaller especially for their calls. I immediately called death claims and I was told that that someone tried to call me 4 or 5 times and I did not answer. Which was not true because I had my phone in my hand in front of me the whole time and it only rang that one time, once. I have been made a fool of countless times and my intelligence has been undermined by not being taken seriously, each time they said they would call me back and never did. I have asked liberty life for an action plan as to how our case will be dealt with, on whether or not a claim will be processed if they do not get an affidavit from these people. We requested a partial pay out while they conclude their investigation but that was also thrown out the window. Liberty life has made life very uncomfortable for us, we are still grieving for the loss of our father. We are struggling to put things behind us as we need the claim to sort out things like our father’s tomb stone and traditional ceremonies. They have undermined my father on all levels as he had worked so hard and they now want to allow ******** to benefit from his life’s work. I hate liberty life with everything that’s in me and I hate that I hold a policy with them and I will try with all I can to get them to return all the premiums I have invested in my policy with them and end all dealings with them. They are disrespectful and allow ******** to make claims when the policy holder is deceased and not able to speak for themselves. I am willing to go through any avenue to expose the pain they have caused my family. I do not wish this experience upon anymore because. Liberty life is a classic example that takes families for a ride and never pay out father the policy holder is dead. I’ve always heard of such stories but today I am proof that happens.
