Liberty keeps on smoking us!

Liberty seems to again make its owns rules as it goes along!

My wife stopped smoking. I advised our broker and Liberty sent a nurse to test. She tested negatively. Liberty refuses to adjust the premium siting an internal business rule that they may only do so after 6 months. (see mail below) . Even though this is ridiculous as you either smoke or don't I asked if the premium would be adjusted from the day she stopped. Again the answer was no, only from after 6 months.

E-mail from Liberty:

This is an internal business rule and not all business/underwriting rules are documented in the policy document. The reason for the six month rule is to establish that the cessation of smoking has been sustained. Experience has shown that many people try to give up smoking but fail. Another reason is that once we allow the change from smoker to non-smoker rates, if the person starts smoking again, we cannot apply smoker rates. The only time we can do this is when further changes are made to the existing benefits at which time smoker rates can be app****.
