Liberty Denied My Disability Claim Over Normal Stress – Despite Truthful Questionnaire

I have been a loyal Liberty client since 2013 and paid every premium faithfully, trusting Liberty would support me if I could no longer work.

In 2015, I was diagnosed with a serious mental illness that has left me unable to work. I submitted a disability claim, but Liberty rejected it because my GP noted “stress” once in 2009 — four years before I even took out my policy.

When I app**** for my cover, Liberty asked whether I had ever suffered from or had trouble with my nervous system. I truthfully answered “No,” because at that time I was not suffering from any nervous system or mental health condition. I was completely healthy and fully able to work when I took out my policy.

Stress is a normal part of life and not the same as a disabling mental illness. Using that single note from 2009 to deny me the cover I paid for feels deeply unfair.

The Ombudsman upheld Liberty’s decision, but I feel devastated and betrayed. I have a real, life-changing condition, yet I am being punished for something that had no impact on my health when I took out my cover.

I am asking Liberty to urgently review this case or offer a fair settlement. I trusted Liberty with my future — right now, I feel abandoned when I need them most.
