DO NOT INSURE WITH LIBERTY
I logged a claim on the 29 November on behalf of my father whom has been diagnosed with 4th stage cancer. I provided all medical reports requested to support my claim. After the 10 day waiting period I followed up with numerous calls to escalate my query due to non-response or feedback. My case was escalated to the assessor Rhonel Harris whom did not have the courtesy to contact me although escalated twice by the agents whom took my call.
I then tried to obtain her contact details via my broker, mind you I logged the claim and she was corresponding with my broker that was out of the country. Eventually on the 19th December I manged to contact Rhonel whom advised me that I needed to provide medical history for the past 3 years as the claim was within 3 years of inception. I argued this point as the policy inception date was the 1/09/2015.
She then advised me that this was requested because my dad got sick within the 3 year period to which I then provided evidence that this was incorrect. I then advised her that this was just a delay tactic from the start to not pay out the claim. She then told me “DO NOT START WITH THAT” to which I was taken aback by her tone. Eventually she advised that she will clarify with the underwriters and came back to me advising that the medical history was NO longer required. I found this to be strange as it seemed as if there was already excuses for the rejection of the claim.
I was then asked to provide further biopsy results which I am not sure why as the CT scans and reports from the Dr treating my dad clearly indicated that he has an advanced stage of colon cancer which has now spread to his liver and lungs.
I was informed today that the claim has been rejected because my day has not has chemotherapy.
This is his decision and his human right to not accept this treatment as his body is too frail to undergo and further strain that may cause him even further limited life expectancy. He has decided to go for Ozone therapy which is an alternative treatment instead of Chemo as this does not put a strain on his already frail condition. Rhonel informs me today that due to him not having chemotherapy the claim has been rejected.
My dad probably has 2 or 3 months at the most to live. The money from the claim was to provide his last few months with the Ozone treatment and comfort that we want to provide in his last few days. I cannot believe that Liberty is forcing upon chemotherapy to a client which the hospital and his Drs have advised is his choice and human right.
I have provided medical proof of this and I am utterly disappointed and the way the assessor has handled this matter. We are now being forced to have Chemotherapy for my dad whom is unable to handle this treatment in order for the claim to be considered. His Body weight has dropped from 70KG to 30 Kgs in the past 2 months which indicates that he cannot handle Chemotherapy but I guess Liberty Life does'n t really care for the clients well being but rather to look at excuses not to pay out claims.
