One Star – Expensive LG C9 OLED TV Failed After Just a Few Years

I purchased an LG C9 OLED TV in December 2019 for R28,599, expecting a premium product to last well beyond a few years. Unfortunately, the TV suddenly stopped switching on recently. The red light comes on, briefly flashes green, and then nothing – completely unresponsive.

After doing some research online, it’s clear this isn’t an isolated issue. Many users have reported similar problems with LG OLEDs, particularly the C9 model. For a TV at this price point, this is unacceptable.

LG markets itself as a premium brand, but this experience has left me deeply disappointed. A television that costs nearly R30,000 should not fail this quickly without any clear reason or warning. I had expected better durability and support from a brand like LG.

Unless LG can offer a satisfactory solution, I will not be purchasing another LG product and will be switching to another brand entirely. I would appreciate a prompt response and assistance in resolving this issue.

Hi Olivia,
Thank you for following up. I appreciate that the issue has been escalated; however, I’m disappointed that LG isn’t prepared to stand behind the product or offer an exception that would keep me with the brand.

I’ll pay the R 650 assessment fee, but if the outcome is that the repair cost is uneconomical, I’ll have no option but to move to another brand. After years of choosing LG, this is obviously not the resolution I’d hoped for.

Please let me know when management has completed their review so I can decide on next steps.
Kind regards,
Denver

Just so everyone is aware, this was their private resolution on the matter, from Bonga:

" I have received your complaint from our call center team regarding your TV.

Kindly note that you cannot guarantee electronics devices lifespan. They can last for a day, a month, 10 years or maybe more than that, hence there is warranty policy in place. In this case it happened to your TV unfortunately. I am really sorry about that.

Regarding the reporting of C9 model by customers, could you please share the link where you got this information. If you can search any model, you willdefinitely hear complains and this goes to all brands.

I am really sorry for what you have experienced with your TV. Kindly advise how LG can assist. "

I will move to repair the current unit if I can, but will be moving back to Samsung after that. Any manufacturer that mentions their unit might last for a day or a month does not have my business anymore.
