LG will ignore you, like you are nothing!

About 5 years ago I bought a LG Blu Ray surround system. We've got DSTV, our computer connected to the TV and Showmax, so the Blu Ray was hardly used; only a few times a year. (Basically it was a pretty ornament on the TV stand)

Now its showing "Please Wait" when you switch it on, and according to many many many online blogs, this is a common LG problem that needs an expensive repair.

The day I bought this item at Makro the LG rep assured me that it was a better buy than a Samsung or Sony. SHAME on you LG! I feel like R3000 was ****** from me.

Good day Samantha,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention, and we are sorry to hear about your bad experience.

Please understand that there is a 2 year warranty on your particular product from the date of purchase.

Also, manufacturing and factory have not found any defects of any sort to be present in your particular model. What you're experiencing is the result of normal part failure.

Your unit would be able to be repaired although unfortunately there would be a cost involved as the warranty period has lapsed.

Please click on the following link in order to locate your nearest repair agent in order for your device to be assessed and then repaired.

Normal part failure takes place due to high usage, which was definately not the case with this machine, and repairing is not an option, as it will cost more than the price of a new machine according to your repair center.
Again, shame on you LG! (Just Google "LG Please Wait problem" and see.....)

So, I contacted LG on Fbook. The representative escalated my query to their complaints department.
It's now a new week and I am still waiting......
(If you are thinking of buying an LG product... Just Google "LG Please Wait problem" and see...)

Good day,

The update for your complaint on the system reads as follows:

"Customer was called and advise to book the unit in  with a repair centre. there is no booking on the system and unit is out of warranty. Warranty card clearly states that unit is covered for 2 years only".

What province do you reside in?

Stop telling me about the warranty. This machine was used a few times a year; the remote still looks like it did on the day it was bought. This machine is broken because of a design flaw that is very very common all over the world. And PS, nobody called me as you don't even have my nr. It shows the commitment (lack of) and attitude towards customers from your complaints dept.

PS, I did call your repair centre; and the part to repair this machine costs the same as the machine did, excluding labour....

I understand your frustration. The facts are as follows, the factory and manufacturing department have not released any report nor found any defect in this particular model, so there is no design flaw at all. What you're referring to as a design flaw is merely a part replacement that needs to occur as parts have a life span. It is incorrect to assume that the life span of a part depends solely on the wear and tear of it, other causes range from correct storage, exposure to moisture, dust as well as temperature.

LG's  warranty is calculated from the date of purchase on your invoice and not according to how many times an item is used, so that is why an attempt in conveying the terms and conditions of the warranty was made.

Your contact number is listed on your account, the number ending in six, three, two, nine! Along with the email beginning with sammydee. On face book your query is under the name Toni Smit. where you posted the exact same query.

The repair center in Cape Town is LGs official repair center.

Would you like someone to call you to explain this telephonically,? If so please provide an alternative contact number if the one listed on your account is incorrect.

Or would you like me to escalate your claim that you were not called and informed of the complaints departments resolution?

So you are saying that if you just leave an LG product on a shelf for the warranty period, then it will still break and become useless? Is this the quality of LG these days? Maybe the engineers at your factory should Google "LG Please wait" so they can see the reality, or is all those unhappy customers also just idiots like me?

No, that is not what has been said. The factory and manufacturing departments function under strict protocols and continually monitor LG products in order to ensure customer  safety and satisfaction. If there was a design fault found they would have filed an official report and taken the necessary steps to resolve that issue, as per their mandate to provide quality products to its consumers, as well as the parameters set out in the CPA regarding product liability issues. Unfortunately LG does not base their reports on the amount of complaints on Google but does have a more in depth and involved process of determining possible issues with their products which include physically assessing the product. All those 'unhappy' customers would be advised to seek out their nearest official LG repair agent in order for their item to be repaired.

Well, I suspect all those unhappy customers probably did contact LG and only got excuses, just like I have been getting on here, and their only other hope was to post on Google to try and get some help for this very common problem that LG is clearly pretending that it does not exist.

No, LG is not noting anything. LG is just confirming the name of this post.
There you have it my fellow consumers. The economy in SA is very tight, so spend your money wisely and think of this post before you buy anything from LG.....
