Dear LG

The LG G4 I purchased in July last year have been the best phone I've ever used until now. A few days ago (5 days after my 1 year warranty ended to be exact), my phone shut down all of a sudden and went into an endless boot loop.

A quick search revealed the problem - contacts on the motherboard that goes loose after a while - a manufacturing fault that LG admitted in January 2016, which affects G4 models pre September 2015.

Now LG, for a flagship phone that costs R9000 one would expect the phone to last the two years of the contract. In fact, every single phone I've owned since the Nokia 3210 back in 2000 I still own and they all still work. I had to fall back to my Galaxy S3 when this phone broke. I can understand hardware failures - they happen, but this hardware failure was due to LG selling me a faulty, defective product, and now when the fault presented itself a couple of days outside my warranty do I have to fork out thousands to fix it when it was faulty since the beginning ?

Why was there no recall or warning to customers when LG were aware of the fault in January ? The first I heard of this fault was when my phone broke.

I purchased the phone on a 24 month contract through FNB, and still have 12 payments of R369 left for a device which is now dead and useless, due to no fault of mine. Also, we early buyers are now being punished while later buyers can buy a unit with no problems.

LG, the right thing to do would be to repair this phone free of charge, due to you selling me a defective product - in fact, in South Africa the consumer protection act protects us against this very thing. At the very least you should replace if with a refurbished unit or give a discounted repair.
