Atrocious service from takealot and LG Johannesburg!
I bought a LG 26WQ500 UltraWide Full HD from takealot on the 24th of November 2023. Two days ago, a line appears from top to bottom of the screen, apparently dead pixels. I looked on the Warranty Card which was in the box and the warranty is for a period of 36 months and seeing that I bought it seven months ago, I was not concerned. I contacted takealot and suddenly, the warranty is only for 6 months. I then contacted LG, who confirmed that the warranty is for 36 months, but their technician first wants to assess the screen and they will send out a technician. As I already contacted takealot, I said to the lovely lady at LG Cape Town, I will have to wait for their response. Meanwhile, I checked the product on takealot and according to the app, the warranty was a limited warranty for 12 months. Today, takealot comes back to me, stating that their warehouse says the warranty is only 6 months. I immediately checked the product on their app again and low and behold, the warranty as per the app is suddenly a limited warranty for 6 months. I contacted LG in Cape Town again and e-mailed the very nice lady, all the information, Invoice, Proof of Payment, Picture of the warranty, Picture of the original box, a video of the strange line that appeared etc., in other words, the works. The very nice lady then undertook to “Kindly note that your complaint has been escalated to management”. Suddenly their technician cannot come to me anymore, so the nice lady said I have to drive to Brackenfell and take the screen to them, about 50 kilometres from me, which is obviously not possible, as I am going to lose a few working hours and they are not open on Saturday and Sunday. At 15:20 today, I receive a call from a lady from LG from a Johannesburg number, who said they have to first assess the monitor and they will send a courier to pick it up and their assessment can take up to 21 BUSINESS DAYS and as they only work from Monday to Friday, I could be without a screen for up to a month and a day, that is if there are not any public holidays and seeing that I work from home, I can’t work and by implication not earn for a month. Obviously, I blew my top, as all the information was included in my e-mail to the very nice lady in Cape Town, including that I use the screen to earn an income. The lady calling from the Johannesburg number, then requested my email address, so that her manager can call me. I have never received a telephone call on my email address and seeing that she called me on my phone, I was confused why she could not give my telephone number to her manager to phone me and as I presume that the lady in Cape Town provided her with my e-mail and all the details. I then requested to be transferred to her manager, but unsurprisingly, her manager was not at his desk and he will phone me back. Needless to say, I am yet to receive a call from said manager. I am dumbstruck that takealot takes zero responsibility and LG seems to not be much better.
