AM I BEING EXPLOITED BY LG OR BY TELKOM???

I purchased a LG G4 in April 2015 at Telkom Direct in Canal Walk

The phone stopped working in September of 2016.

On the 22nd. September, it switched off and when I tried to switch the phone on, it kept re-booting and I could not get to the homescreen.

This appears to be a common problem with the LG G4, as my brother and his girlfriend had the same problem within two weeks of mine. (Both of their's were repaired within a week or two after handing it in for repairs).

I had dropped the phone in January and as a result, a crack had appeared on the screen.

I did not deem this serious enough to have the screen replaced as the crack had absolutely no impact on the operation of the instrument.

As I could not get the instrument to start-up, I took the phone to Telkom Direct in Canal Walk on Thursday the 22nd. of September. The consultant informed me that the phone would need to go for repairs.

At this point, I showed him that despite the crack, (once the welcome LG logo displays), there was no issue with the LED which he annotated on the booking-in form. I also informed the agent that they should NOT replace the screen as it was not an issue for me.

Then on the 30th. September, I received an sms stating the following "Dear Dane Peregrino your device has been deemed out of warranty and has been quoted for R7539.99 incl VAT. Payment to Telkom Repairs, Absa, ********** 175, Ref No:TRL028605. Quote valid for 7 days. A consultant will be in contact shortly. Telkom Mobile"

I was completely blown away by this excessive quotation, while the instrument has a 2 year warranty. I am left believing that the moment they saw the damage to the screen, they felt it nagatted the warranty and then quoted for the repairs that should have been covered by the warranty.

As a lay-person, to me, this is tantamount to saying, "seeing that your car's headlight was cracked, we need to replace the engine that had gone faulty (under warranty), so you'll have to carry the cost, as you should have replaced the headlight".

To add insult to injury, I was made to pay R188.00 before they would return my broken phone as I was and am NOT prepared to pay this exorbitant amount of money for these so-called repairs.

Shame on you LG. / Telkom
