Lexus Gateway - Another Disaster

I purchased a used 06 VW beetle for my wife from Lexus Gateway in November 2015. I found a number of defects within 2 weeks of purchase despite a 30 point check by Lexus. Some were safety related like the car randomly not starting! My wife refused to use the car. Lexus committed to rectifying the defects and the vehicle went in at least 8 times and spent approx. 153 days with Lexus from December 2015 until now. In fact, since February 2016 I have only had the vehicle for 25% of the time. Since then the car has developed more problems while in the care of Lexus. On one occasion it came back with a creaking suspension, then pulling to one side. On another occasion it came back with the worn brake light on, even though the car had done only 3000km since the COR. Obviously, I received a car with very little brake pad on. Denzil Maistry (GM –Sales) again undertook to repair all of the new issues but it came back the same or worse. Two weeks ago the car came back with a blown exhaust manifold! Lexus have refused to provide any documentation whatsoever on any of the repairs done. Of course, they refused to give me a refund. I received a totally unsatisfactory response from the Dealer Principal, Mark van Heerden. Bizarrely, he claims I “had extensive use of the motor vehicle since the delivery thereof” and arrogantly claims “that the Motor Industry Ombudsman shall find in CMH’s favour “

I have come to the conclusion that the Lexus brand is being used to peddle ‘’sub-standard’’ vehicles. The dealership takes no responsibility and passes the safety and financial risk to the customer while selling the cars at full retail value. Even their own sales people are resigning. Based on my experience and others that have shared on this forum, I don’t see CMH ***ners of this dealership) living up to their stated mission which is “ to provide a total commitment to customer satisfaction in all aspects of business, and to ensure that our customers are treated fairly and equitably by a motivated, well-trained team of specialists”. As they say in Latin: caveat emptor (buyer beware)!
