Absolutely terrible company; Avoid them at all costs.

To Neliswa Mncube.

Posting the same response to every complaint, will not make the root problem go away. You fail to actually read complaints, and only reply with a pre-written response to everyone. You even delete negative reviews on Google.

Let me tell you this: It is not only Tuks students that you have angered. Word has travelled across South Africa, and students like myself from other universities have taken notice.

You mention that copyright infringement is against the law and that your company has done everything possible to help during the pandemic - this isn’t true. A person who works with publishers at a library has publicly stated that while other companies have gone above and beyond to help during this challenging time, LexisNexis have not. In fact, they have done the complete opposite and failed to make any content easier to access during this difficult time financially.

This shows that the culture at LexisNexis is one of greed - instead of putting the blame on students who are in a Whatsapp group, can you not hold your staff accountable at all? Do you think it is legal for Johan Botha to enter a platform where he is not allowed? According to his logic, everyone in the group should have a ******** record, and their future careers should be ruined.

HOW does this logic work? If you are guilty by simply being on a Whatsapp group, should Mnr Botha not also receive a ******** record according to his own logic?

Maybe listen to the students, and see why these actions are wrong. Don’t post a pre-written response but instead listen for a second and think to yourself - If so many people find fault with this does the fault not perhaps lie with yourself?

Maybe you’ll respond to this post in a better way. I don’t expect much from this company, though.

Dear Johan B

Thank you for your message.

LexisNexis South Africa wishes to confirm that the employee involved was not acting under any orders from our company, nor in compliance with any official LexisNexis company policy. In light of this we have instituted an internal investigation in this respect.

Please be assured that we are listening to the voice of the student community.  We would like to reach out to you to address your concerns directly. Kindly provide a contact number or feel free to email me on ***

Having received a flurry of messages on HelloPeter within a few hours all largely raising the same issues, our standard message intended to address the common points raised, as quickly as possible. We also confirm that nobody within the company has ever deleted any negative reviews on Google.

In terms of the support available from LexisNexis, our academic division communicated with universities in April, setting out the measures we have taken to provide relief to the academic community over this period. We would be happy to discuss these with you.

Regards
Neliswa Mncube
