Wish to never see a Lewis Stores ever again, no matter which province it's in.

I really hope there was a negative star rating to give Lewis Stores for the branch in Oxford Street, East London.

My wife had a furniture account which we settled this year, and in doing so we paid slightly more than what was due. Now, it is an ongoing battle to receive our refund.

Quick background to the story: The furniture account was in my wife's name and paid by myself (Husband). So, the account belongs to her. Every time I would request a statement from head office, verification to share this with me was done. This is not an issue as the store needs to protect its customers and itself.

The problem comes in now that we have paid the account in full and would like to receive our refund. Almost every second week we are called more than once a day, and not only my wife receives these calls (like how they required verification from her when dealing with the statement requests), but me also. The first three calls informed us of our refund first before the credit which we can access at the store. On all these initial calls, I queried the return of the refund. They told us it must be collected at the store. So, I went on to ask whether my wife needs to be present since verification was always done with her regarding the statement requests, and I was told 'NO', I can come in alone.

So, when I had the chance because I was in East London for that day, about a month from the initial call, I was told a different story: that my wife needed to be there. This of course came as a surprise to me because I made sure to ask about it before coming.

Long story short, I did not receive the refund and had to return to the store with my wife. My wife works in Alice, and I in King Williams Town. So the travel to East London is costly. She needed to sign a refund form before it can be given to her. I asked can't this be emailed to her now and she endorses and returns by email, in under 30 minutes. The answer still remained a 'NO'. So I left the store and returned home.

Two days after I receive a call from Lewis stores Oxford Street, East London, informing us of the credit we have at the store. I again state that we are not interested in the credit as we did on the previous calls, and then begin to query the refund stating that I was informed I can collect it myself without my wife being present, and this was not the case when I was there. While explaining this to the lady who called me, she then hung up the phone. I called back three times immediately afterwards and I received very unprofessional responses in all three of the calls, all of which eluded that I will receive a call back from that person who called because they don't know who it is. Bare in mind that the voice of the person who called me plus the 3 'different' people to which I spoke is identical. One of the calls went as far as saying I am not audible until I got irritated and started being stern over the phone. Strange how when there is credit I become relevant as my wife's spouse, but when I requested statements it was the vice versa.

I am still waiting for that callback by the way.

Totally unacceptable and really outraged by this. So much harassment over available credit, but nothing over what's due to the customers.

I PRAY THAT WE NEVER GET INTO BUSINESS WITH LEWIS STORES, EVER AGAIN, NO MATTER THE PROVINCE IT IS IN.

I was assured over the phone that this process will not take time. But, we are still here.

I don't know what to do anymore.

Mind you, even though they keep saying they need my wife's details and such, since she was the account holder, they have no problem contacting me (not the account holder) when selling their products. I don't need to verify my marriage by furnishing my marriage certificate, nor does my wife need to consent to the call. Nxa!
