Harrassment by an employee at the comfort of their home

A Lewis employee, Mr Vusi Ntshingila from the Lewis Sebokeng branch, visited my elderly mother’s home regarding her account. My mother is a pensioner.

We are not disputing that arrears may exist. However, Mr Ntshingila demanded payment of R175, an amount not reflected in the signed credit agreement, and insisted that it must be paid immediately on the spot to prevent the account from being “handed over”.and failure to do so they will cease all the furniture.

When my mother stated that she would go to the Lewis branch to discuss the matter because at the moment she doesn't have money, Mr Ntshingila said it would make no difference and demanded payment immediately. He further stated that he would not leave the property until the money was paid.

During a telephonic conversation with me, Mr Ntshingila threatened that he would return tomorrow with the sheriff to collect the TV stand the only thing that is purchased at Lewis and the rest of the furniture that has nothing to do with Lewis , despite no court order, judgment, or warrant existing.

This conduct amounts to harassment, ************, misrepresentation of legal processes, and exploitation of a pensioner. Lewis employees have no authority to threaten sheriff action, demand on-the-spot payment, or remove furniture.

We demand:

Immediate cessation of all home visits made by Vusi Ntshingila

Written clarification of the R175 charge

Confirmation that this employee’s conduct is being investigated

Lawful, written communication only going forward
