Bad Credit Application Process

Lewis Furniture Stores have one of the worst credit application processes I have EVER experienced. I submitted an application on 27/12/2025 at Lewis Commissioner Street, JHB. While at the store I was informed that the application was declined - the staff assisting could not provide me with a reason as no reason was provided by head office. In the upcoming business days there was back and forth regarding an issue with my ID document. I was requested to submit my passport as a form of identification because - according to them - it appeared that I had a pending ID application at DOHA. I informed them that I do not have anything pending at DOHA and this is suspicious because no establishment has ever requested my passport as a form of identification (I am South African for crying out loud). I, reluctantly, provided my passport. My application was eventually approved on 05/01/2026 and was told that the reason my application was previously declining was because I had a new passport. My passport was issued in 2017!!! This reason did not make sense. On 06/01/2025 I went to the store to finalise the application and accept offer. I was under the impression this was the end of it until I was informed that the HO would be calling me to go through the "interview" process. HO called me the following day only to interview me on the very same information I had signed in the contract the day before - so I was essentially signing the contract telephonically. Later that day the branch then contacted me to inform me that I had "failed the interview" due to saying that my debit date is on the last day of the month instead of saying it should be the 30th. Needless to say, I was speechless and extremely annoyed because this whole thing was starting to feel like a bad ****. I was then informed that the branch would send an email requesting another "interview". This has been the most tedious and annoying process just to purchase beds! Please, Lewis, do better. This whole process is giving **** behaviour!
