Incorrect pricing at Levi's Waterfront

I visited the Levis store at the Waterfront this afternoon in order to purchase a pair of sneakers. When trying them on I checked the price which was visibly placed inside the shoe (R430).
When I got to the checkout the price was R499. I brought this up with the sales assistant who informed me that the price was scratched out on the box due to a price increase, so the price was R499.
I find this highly upsetting. I do not like to make a scene, but how embarrassing would it be if I couldn't have afforded the 'increased price'.
I understand that price increases on products are inevitable, but surely a store should cover their bases and ensure that all items are correctly priced?
I am highly disappointed in the Levi brand, the sales assistant should have charged me R430 only, as that is the only price evident on the sneakers and the box.
I also found it disappointing that the first pair of sneakers I tried on were dirty. Is there no store manager to ensure these mishaps do not occur??
