Disgusting service at Levingers in Mutual Village Rivonia and no response to my complaint

I bought my daughter a beautiful, black, leather handbag. She was upset when she noticed that the base of the strap was tearing as she loves the bag and it was only a few months old. I work in Rivonia so took it in to Levingers, Mutual Village, Rivonia on Monday 24 April. I should have gone on my first impression and walked out. There was a lady and two men working in the shop. The two men were talking at the top of their voices and my presence was barely acknowledged. The lady eventually assisted me and was not very helpful. I could barely speak to her with the volume of the two men conversing. She asked the man fixing shoes if the strap needed to be patched and with a quick glance from a distance - he didn't even look at the strap -he rep**** that it did. I paid the R69 and asked when it would be ready. She said it would be reading on Tuesday 2 May after 4:00 p.m. I was surprised that it would take so long and when I asked if it could be sooner she was dismissive and said they were very busy. She left the handbag lying on the counter and attended to another customer. I left the shop regretting having left the handbag there and hoping that the job would be done properly and that I would get the bag back.

My husband went to Mutual Village on Monday (1 May). I asked him to check if by any chance the bag was ready so my daughter (who was home for the long weekend) could take it back with her. He went into the shop and was served by a man. He checked the slip, had a very cursory look for the bag - literally a few seconds, and said "The agreement was that it will be ready on Tuesday". My husband came home, not knowing of my first experience and said he thought the man was very rude.

I was unable to fetch the bag on Tuesday, 2 May, so went on Wednesday afternoon (3 May) around 3:45pm to fetch it. The two men were in the shop. I gave one of the men the slip and he proceeded to rummage through a messy basket of handbags looking for mine. He could not find it and kept checking my slip. I then saw a black strap hanging down from under a handbag on one of the shelves and asked if perhaps it was my handbag. It was indeed the correct handbag. I checked the strap to see if it had been repaired properly. To my dismay, it was still torn and nothing had been done to it. I pointed this out to the man, who told me that it was put in the wrong place - with the bags which have been repaired - so they thought it had been done. I was furious! The bag had sat on the shelf for 9 days and been ignored. The man then told me to come back the following day to fetch it. I told him I could not come back and he saw that I was annoyed at the appalling service. He then said I could come back in 20 minutes and he would do it. I returned about half an hour later and the bag had been repaired but not patched. The torn section had been pulled into the seam and stitched, hiding the tear and making it shorter than the other side. I don't know if patching is more expensive than stitching - but he had said originally it had to be patched. I queried the fact that he had said that it needed a patch and he said that it didn't need a patch. He told me that the way he repaired it was the correct way to repair it.

I am happy to have the bag back in one piece but I can assure you I will never put a foot into that shop again and will certainly advise people not to use this branch. These workers need some lessons in basic courtesy and customer service. They are rude, totally distinterested, disorganised and clearly have a poor work ethic. I emailed my bad experience to Yadhir and Virginia (from the website) on Wednesday 3 May. Today is 21 May and I have had no response to my email.
