Unauthorised Repairs -
So they charge us R2800 for repairs of a flushing system and a toilet seat. Hubby has it on email to their so called maintenance department that he was waiting for a quote which she agreed to. and lo and behold, we get an invoice for R2800. we were confused and shocked as to what the hell happened? This was defiantly not an emergency because the toilet was a problem from the first month as the tenant did not pay (another drama!) and letting people refused to fix the toilet, so emergency...I think not. Then we willing to compromise and pay for only the parts which we got our quote (R500 mind you!) and these people want to charge us R1800 as per the contract we signed. Absolutely pathetic. they use the contract to hide behind their mess up and designed to protect themselves. Please stay away from them. Pay the extra and use a professional well known company

The above is not an accurate representation of the facts. Letting People DID NOT refuse to fix the toilet because the rent was not paid - IT WAS SUGGESTED TO THE COMPLAINANT TELEPHONICALLY to invoke the CPA which requires reciprocity from both parties (services must be paid for in order for the 2nd party to carry out their responsibilities, in this instance pay the arrears rental in order for maintenance to be carried out) and which the complainant agreed was a fair course of action. It was also agreed in the same telephonic conversation that once the arrears was paid the toilet could be fixed.
As an agency of almost 13 years good standing, we are a professional company with a repeat business rate of over 90%.
Any misrepresentation of the facts or allegations of impropriety by Letting People will be met with legal action to restore our name.

The toilet had in fact been in state of disrepair for sometime so yes it was an emergency. Our policy regarding who fulfils the rental criteria is strict, one of which is a good rental payment track record.
Letting agents cannot be hold responsible for the conduct of another party, if they fail to pay the rent we use all legal means at our disposal to induce them to pay. Letting agents can only go so far legally and when all legal courses of action have failed it is for the owner to decide to pay and sue for eviction.
This matter has been resolved in the complainants favour and is thus closed.
