The Letting Corporate Unprofessional Service

I've had the worst experience with The Letting Corporation for an apartment I've rented at Oak Park in Bellville, Cape Town. The apartment was molding really bad due to poor ventilation. I've opened all windows and installed an industrial dehumidifier, in addition to using disposable dehumidifier tubs in every room.

We had to take all clothing to dry cleaners every week irrespective of not wearing it. The walls and cupboard were badly molded and the shower was leaking. Irrespective of us notifying them during inspections and via email, they did not respond to our concerns. My son was constantly ill and we opted to not continue with lease.

Although a clause in our contract stipulated that if our lease expires and we don't renew it, rental will go on a month-to-month basis. When we notified TLC that we will not continue, they threated us by saying that we are already in new contract. We've pointed out this clause to them and they then accepted it.

When they done the exit inspection for is to get our deposit back, they claimed for the mold, leaking shower, and damage done to the front door by their outside sprinkler. Their shower was not waterproofed properly and we've notified them during their 6 month inspection. They got back to us with another deposit return proposal to which I've accepted it.

I've then followed up on payment and they said it will take 14-21 days to process. I referred back to the lease agreement and it stipulated 7-14 days. Irrespective of the unprofessional communication from their end and lack of customer service, I've waited the 14 days. I followed up again and they did not respond to my emails.

Their offices were open for another 5 days, but they refused to respond to me and went on holiday. I then had to pay my new apartment deposit via credit card and plan accordingly for the festive season. This of course is totally unacceptable. I will be filing a lawsuit and will inform the health inspector about the mold issue.
