No Delivery, Refund Delayed

Leroy Merlin Marketplace Warning – R4,499 Paid, No Delivery, Refund Delayed

Post Content:

I am sharing my experience to warn the public about buying through Leroy Merlin’s online marketplace, where third-party sellers are allowed to operate under their platform.

On 5 December 2025, I placed Order #*** via Leroy Merlin for an IG Furniture Sienna Luxe Sleeper Couch, paying R4,499.00 upfront.

The Leroy Merlin system clearly showed an arrival date of Wednesday, 17 December 2025. This date was re**** upon, as the item was urgently required for sleeping accommodation.

What followed was unacceptable:

No delivery was made on 17 December

No updated delivery date was provided

No proactive communication from the seller or Leroy Merlin

Repeated follow-ups were ignored

Children were left sleeping on the floor

Only after significant escalation did IG Furniture state that a refund had been “issued”. As of now, the full amount of R4,499.00 has still not reflected.

This raises serious concerns about Leroy Merlin’s marketplace practices:

Full payment is taken upfront

Third-party sellers fail to deliver on confirmed dates

Refunds are only processed after the customer is already in distress

Customers carry all the risk, not the platform or seller

A refund after failure is not customer service — especially when essential household items are involved.

Until Leroy Merlin enforces proper accountability and faster refunds, I strongly caution the public against buying from third-party sellers hosted on their website.

Public Response Text: Leroy Merlin Marketplace has now responded, and their explanation unfortunately confirms the core issue. The Leroy Merlin system clearly showed an arrival date of Wednesday, 17 December 2025 for Order #***. This was re**** upon when purchasing, as the item was urgently required for sleeping accommodation. What the response fails to acknowledge is:
  • No delivery was made on 17 December
  • No delay was communicated during the day
  • No consent was requested to move delivery to the 18th
  • No contact was made before 18:00 on the 17th
Completing production at 18:00 does not constitute delivery. At 18:13 on the 17th, after the confirmed delivery date had passed and with no communication, I requested a refund so I could urgently buy elsewhere. This was a direct result of non-delivery, not impatience. While IG Furniture states that a refund was “issued” on the 17th, the full amount of R4,499.00 paid via Leroy Merlin has still not reflected. I also note that the response references an item value of R3,477.39, whereas the actual amount paid upfront was R4,499.00, including VAT. The full amount remains outstanding. Passing responsibility between seller and platform does not resolve the issue for the customer.
When payment is taken upfront by a major retailer, the customer should not be left without goods and without their money. This response unfortunately reinforces why stronger marketplace accountability is urgently needed. I hereby formally escalate this matter in terms of the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008 (CPA), Section 54 – Right to Timely Performance and Quality Service.
