Avoid Leroy Merlin Centurion

Last Friday, on my way home, I stopped at the Leroy Merlin branch in Centurion to purchase paint for repainting the railing around my braai area. I was specifically looking for a good-quality matt black paint that could withstand the harsh South African sun and weather conditions. A Leroy Merlin employee first showed me the cheapest option. When I asked about the quality, I was directed to a more expensive product (Duram), which was presented as the better choice. As I am not an expert in paints, I opted for what I believed was the superior, higher-quality option. Over the weekend, my painter arrived, and I handed over all the paint and equipment before leaving. When I returned, the railing had been painted in a shiny gloss black finish — exactly the opposite of what I had requested. This means that what was supposed to be a R2,500 paint job will now cost me double, as the entire job will need to be redone. My advice to others: Unless you already know exactly what product you need and can confidently purchase that specific item, avoid shopping at Leroy Merlin. If you require advice or need to rely on the expertise of staff, you are far better off going to Chamberlain instead.
