If I could give zero stars, I would.

We visited Leopard Rock on what should have been one of the happiest days of my life—my wedding day. It was a very small, simple ceremony with just nine of us (my husband, myself, and close family). We planned only to say our “I do’s” and take a few photos on the overhanging rock—nothing elaborate, just something intimate and meaningful.

We first went into the very empty coffee shop (only one other table was occupied) to have coffee and enjoy the stunning view. We even asked the waitress to add the R10 per person rock fee onto our bill for all nine people—we weren’t expecting anything for free and were happy to pay, and even intended to sit for a meal afterward.

The waitress and waiter acted friendly, congratulating me, but their behavior felt sneaky as they tried to confirm what we were planning. It became clear they were reporting back to the owner. Shortly after, the owner herself stormed up to us with the most shockingly rude and hostile attitude I have ever experienced. Without allowing us to say a single word, she snapped at us:

> “I hear you want to get married on MY ROCK, well that’s not happening! It’s private property.” We were not even aware that the rock was connected with her property before this, had we been informed in a kind manner, we would have paid any fee she named to have a special day there.

She then insisted we would have to hire the entire venue—for nine people, two of whom would even stand on the actual rock. When we politely tried to explain and even offered to pay more than the R10 per person, she cut us off and refused to listen. Her tone was aggressive, her manner completely unprofessional, and she ruined what should have been a joyful, intimate moment.

The result? She had the bride (me) in tears on her own wedding day. Instead of kindness or even basic respect, we were met with arrogance and hostility.

Thankfully, we went up the road to Oribi Gorge Big 5, where we found an even more spectacular overhanging rock, truly friendly staff, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The contrast was night and day. Fortunately, our special day remained that- special.

Leopard Rock itself may be beautiful, but the owner is so unwelcoming and rude that it spoils the entire experience. It’s a tragedy that such a natural gem is overshadowed by someone so unpleasant.

We will never return as long as she is involved, and we’ll be sharing this experience far and wide. For anyone wanting the same breathtaking views without the misery of dealing with such hostility, head to Big 5 Oribi Gorge instead—you’ll be glad you did.
