LEO HAESE

We rented a house in the Lombardy Estate from Leo Haese, a well known BMW dealer himself with Johan Scheppel as letting agent. When dealing with them, we would recommend you to be wide awake, with your last months rent as they will never refund your deposit. Right through the tenancy, we on a regular basis complained about the poor condition of the house to name but a few the skirtings were consumed by termites and were never repaired. The pool was giving us problems from the start. An inspection as required by the Rental Act was never carried out when we moved in, but when we moved out, after expiry of the lease agreement an inspection was carried out in the presence of the myself and the letting agent, and we were told that everything was in good working conditions and that there were no defects. But low and behold, after we moved and when we enquired about our deposit, along came Mr Haese and demanded deductions for expenses which was not for our account, such as washing of carpets (approximately R2.500) after we washed the carpets with Skitterblink - a professional carpet cleaner company (R600) the same day we moved out. The list can go on. From the R22.000-00 deposit which Hease held we only got approximately half of it back (without interest- as required by the Rental Act). It was not worth our while to pursue the matter as legal expenses would well exceed the amount due to us. Be very careful.
