Bad taste in the mouth...

Over the last couple of years my wife and I had many great meals and evenings at Lemon Butta Willowbridge. It therefore was great to be invited there for a friends birthday celebration. Upon arrival I congratulated my friend also with regards to his choice of restaurant. The moment we walked in everything started to change though.

1.) The manager told my friend that the table, he personally came to book that afternoon, was not available. My friend was told that he could choose between two other tables. Nothing apologetic or special about the way in which the information was given. While we were standing around discussion which table to take, a gentleman sitting at the table which was initially booked for us, asked in a really offensive way "Have you been helped?". Both my wife and I rep**** "Yes, thank you".

2.) When we sat down my friend, who was having his birthday, asked the manager if they could discuss the corkage fee due to the fact that he lost his table. In a rude tone the Manager told him "There is nothing to talk about, it is what is" Al three couples at the table was quite upset with the way in which the Manager responded.

3.) When he left our very nice waiter started to take our orders. One of the ladies at our table asked her who the gentleman at "our" booked table was who asked if we were helped. The waiter told us that it was the owner of the Lemon Butta. Our friend then told us that she heard him saying, to the rest of the people sitting at that table "..so why are you still standing around then" after my wife and I told him that we have been helped. Fortunately I did not hear that at that stage.

My wife and I was ready to leave the restaurant at that stage but we did not want to let my friend have an even worse evening than what he was experiencing already. Fortunately, we had a great waiter and again we had a very good meal like we all were used to.

It is a pity though that the arrogance and incompetence of both the waiter and the owner had cast a shadow over our whole evening. Maybe having many loyal customers made business too good and arrogance creeps in? I know what I will do in future....
