Feeling misled and disappointed in LekkeSlaap

Feel like wasting your money and have a disastrous holiday? Stay here! We booked 15 nights at Patrick’s View self-catering. After staying 3 nights, we were willing to sacrifice the money in return for not having to deal with the daily frustration, anger and disappointment.

1. The units have a lovely view of the back of the bottle store. Sitting on the stoep, the monstrosity of the stacked ship containers totally overshadows the view of the mountain.

2. There is no privacy and safety was comprised. There is an electric gate between the units and the bottle store but we were told the gate is only closed after 20h00. Reason? The area reserved right in front of the units is used for delivery of alcohol and constant in-and-out of vehicles and people. The host insisted that the gate can’t be closed before 20h00 because it will negatively influence his business (which is the bottle store). The result, you have zero privacy, coming out the front door. We phoned LekkeSlaap upon arrival, after learning that the gate that is not being closed (only after 20h00) and we raised concern about our safety and that of our vehicle. The LekkeSlaap agent on the phone indicated that “we live in South Africa, LekkeSlaap can’t guarantee safety”.

3. Even though LekkeSlaap advertised that the accommodation offered on their website is “Verified: All our “lekke plekke” are reputable accommodation, we felt misled by LekkeSlaap by not indicating that Patrick’s View is situated in a less-reputable suburb. Entering and exiting the accommodation we were inundated and harassed by beggars and drunk people – in some instances, liquor store clients even parked in front of the access gate. After the closing of the liquor store at night, the sound of noisy drunkards was like music to our ears, late into the night….

4. The basic requirements for such an establishment were substandard and disappointing. Some of the towels provided really should be used as rags…. The shower leaked all the way into the hallway and the towels were indeed suitable for this purpose. One of the coffee mugs provided was chipped and some of the hinges of the kitchen cupboards are dilapidated. Even though Wi-Fi was advertised, we were not provided with the Wi-Fi password.

We were so disgusted with the accommodation provided that we were prepared to sacrifice the money already paid. Although we were offered alternative accommodation by the host, it meant that we would have to move four times for the remainder of the days booked. Unacceptable. Having sacrificed 3 days of holiday seeking alternative accommodation during the busiest time of the year, we were pleasantly surprised to have found a lovely establishment that superseded our wildest expectations, even having meant that we had to pay twice as much. In this instance we were blessed.

We left the establishment after 03 days during which we post arrival, having travelled 1300kms, the disappointment was overwhelming.

The question is asked whether LekkeSlaap indeed verifies accommodation and by what standard.

Should it be fair for LekkeSlaap to refund us for being misled?!

We have lost faith in LekkeSlaap after having used their services for many years, and will never use LekkeSlaap again, nor recommend Patrick’s View self-catering accommodation to anyone out there.
